He’s an engaging minor character in the film “Slamnation” and was a semifinalist for the Individual Slam Championship in 2000. His work appears in the anthologies "The Spoken Word Revolution," "Poetry Slam," and "Complete Idiot's Guide to Slam Poetry." His most recent book, from EM Press, is called "Say Goodnight, Grace Notes."

ABOUT CHRISTA

Poet, Writer, Spoken-Word Performance Artist

Christa Bell is a writer, poet, Spoken-Word Performance Artist, arts educator, and cultural activist from Seattle, Washington. She received her BA in English, with an emphasis in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and has studied in Europe and lived in East Africa as well.

After just two years of competing on the national poetry slam scene, Christa placed third this year in the Individual Competition of the National Poetry Slam held in Albaquerque, New Mexico. She has been a member of the Seattle Poery Slam Team two years in a row and is currently the 2005 Grand Slam Poetry Slam Champion, as well as the North West's 2005 Individual World Poetry Slam, contender and one of the Seattle City Council's nominee's for 2005 Poet Populist.

Christa has performed internationally at universities, poetry festivals and slam venues and has shared stages with political and artistic luminaries such as Saul Williams, Angela Y. Davis, Muta Baruka, Imani Uzuri and Asha Bandele.

Her self-published collections of poetry are entitled, Revival and Arise My Beautiful One, Come With Me, both of which explore the the inner lives of Black women as relates to romantic archetypes, sexual freedom and self-worship. She is also the creator and producer of the
recording, Word Medicine, the Live Recorded Poetry of Christa Bell.

Her current projects include a memoir entitled, 56: Memoir of a Black Girls Sexual Coming of Age, as well as headlining her first international tour, Word Medicine which will begin in the fall of 2005 and which promises to be a escastic celebration of the divine and empowered Feminine.
