Ahhhh…Poetics!
Verbiage. Words. Yummy! Discovering the use of poetry as a means of connecting with the world in whatever capacity my doggone doggerel allow saved my life-literally! The people who exposed me to poetry and performance I owe my undying gratitude to. Catherine Carlson, my former drama teacher and life-time friend, taught me the values of honesty in words and the presentation of them. My parents, Lorraine and Jim have supported my every kooky creative whim since childhood. The folks here in Vancouver with the Van Slam Team have offered me experiences that have been invaluable in my path as a performance poet.
Then there are the other influences, like the MUSE. Y'know, that spirit that hits and writes through you? Or the Beat poets and jazz musicians who paved our path to free verse, flow, and experimentation. Anyone offering a place for free flowing verbiage!
So many challenges and opportunities in life, all waiting to be written…some days it's good-others damnably frusterating.
Either way, I hope that I can pay homage to both language and to the poetic craft through my words. I hope that you enjoy reading, and feel free to let me know what you think in the FORUM!

The Stink...
The controversy! The battle! The broo-ha-ha! Ultimately, the silliness that ensued as a result of Canada's poet laureate's comments regarding poetry as performance and my response to him. I'm glad it's all behind us now, but I still get asked "What the hell was that all about?" Well, it had both positive and negative ramifications, both of which I am still in the midst of processing.
Did I learn anything? Hell yes! Don't believe everything you read in the paper or see in the media-obvious, I know, but boy-oh-boy, when it directly involves you, it sure's hell changes your perspective! It also lets you know, real clear-like, when to set the ego aside! I also found personal challenges as a writer in Bowering's essays on writing philosophy-something that I wish more folks had done, if for no other reason than to begin thinking differently! Took me a while...
If you were still wondering about the hoopla, the poop, the cannaille, hopefully, the following will put your mind to rest. If it is already, skip the next bit!!
