The Front Beam and Brakes

After a year and a half of doing nothing on the bus, I thought it was time to get started. This is largly due to my friend Scott giving me a bad time about it! One of the first items to take care of is the front beam.
This beam is actually from the '65 Std. that I parted out. I did drive the bus with this beam and steering box and it was tight. The beam that is under the bus right now looks much worse as it had been sitting half burried in the dirt for years. Time to rebuild this one then swap it out with the nasty looking one.

The first thing to do was to make a stand for the beam. It will be much easier to work on it this way. The design for the stand was borrowed from David Mayes. Click HERE for a link to his web site and the story of his 1959 Double Cab restoration, as well as other VW's he has including a 1967 Tipper.
I'll be stripping the beam down, cleaning, painting, and replacing parts as needed. Stay tuned for more of the story and pictures!
