1965 Volkswagen De Luxe Micro Bus
Welcome To My Story On The Restoration Of A Neglected Bus.
This is a 1965 Volkswagen DeLuxe Micro Bus. It was ordered without the sunroof or skylight windows and is commonly known as a 13 Window Hardtop. This bus was built on March 16, 1965 and first entered the United States in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At one time, it was sold as new or used from Kumpf Foreign Motors in Denver. It then lived in southern Colorado for a number of years before moving to Alamosa, CO. The bus remained in Alamosa until 1979. Then in the early 1980's, it was abandoned and traded from person to person.

In 1999, it was "discovered" rotting in a field in Buena Vista, CO. by the fellow I purchased it from. There was also a 1965 EZ Camper Bus, and he bought them both. He had them hauled on a flatbed to Denver and began work on the camper. This bus was to be the "spare" that he was going to cut-up for replacement sheetmetal. After having it in his backyard for over a year, he decided to sell it as it was too nice to cut.
That's when I entered the picture....
