DATING SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH OCD
Many single people in the Support Group have asked if there is a dating service that matches people with OCD to others with OCD who might understand us better. I don't know if love between people with OCD works any better than any other pairing, but I decided to give it a try. I have found online dating services that charge to match people by various details they list in the search questionnaire. AS OF APRIL 2005 I HAVE FOUND A VERY EASY AND FREE SITE: SKIP DOWN TO PLENTYOFFISH.COM BELOW! As of Aug. 2002, I have also found a completely free one. Skip down to DatingClub.com below..
Most of these services ask you to invent a cute nickname or user id. We who have OCD can use this to make the computer search for only people with OCD, simply by beginning your nickname with dco_ (that's ocd in reverse.) Thus, the name "Warren" could be "dco_Warren". Then, when you ask the computer to search for dco_* (that's D-C-O-underscore-asterisk, the asterisk tells the computer to find ALL NAMES STARTING WITH dco_), it will pull up only people with OCD.Therefore, you don't have to say in your description that you have OCD. Nice and private.
Many of these systems will allow you to read about the person if you click on a box that means that you show interest in the person. This places that person's name on your own special list of people you'd like to read about. Then, if you go back to the main menu, you can bring up that list of people you are interested in, and from there you can read about them and respond. But, although it costs nothing to list yourself or just browse through many of these systems, and it's free to type in a search for people using a user id like dco-*, most of these services charge you to use their internal email system.
(I now have found a dating service that will let you use it completely FREE for two months: http://www.viewandpursue.com ) If you prefer to have people contact you at your own email address, and if you include your own email address in your description of yourself, their computer will catch the "www" or the  "@" or the".com" and refuse to include your entry. However...  if you type in an email address that "sounds" like yours, it may pass. (For example, jeff@hotmail.com could be typed "jeff at hot mail d o t c o m" and the reader will still understand it.) "I am not suggesting that users attempt to use these PAY systems free of charge."
PS: I have NOW found a COMPLETELY FREE dating matching service! http://datingclub.com/   It's Free even to send replies to other singles! To use this one to find someone with ocd, DO THESE 3 THINGS:When you register, enter o as your 'user name' (enter your preferred choice of name to be displayed as 'first and last name'.) Put an o at the beginning of your 'description of yourself' so only we searchers who have ocd will know secretly that you have ocd.(To all others, this o will just appear to be a typo.)  And do a 'Search by Username' entering the o as the user name. (This will bring up all the people with ocd who have entered o as their 'user name'.)
Plentyoffish.com is so easy to use, totally free, and brings you pictures and listings of
people in your local area wherever you live in USA or CANADA. It takes just 15
minutes to answer about 20 multiple choice questions, write a short story about
yourself, upload up to 8 pictures and you're done! Includes its own Instant Messenger
device. Incorporate the letters OCD in your 8-letter nickname like I did, and WE with
OCD (who understand best) will be able to find YOU! [My nickname is LIocdLUV. You might try names like ocdGEORG or ocLYNNEd or hotOCDsy, etc etc...].
Good luck in your search for the ideal partner....have fun!
