Noah PostScript Type 1 Font
Editor
Yeah Noah's free Windows 3.1 / 95 / 98 / NT PostScript Type 1 font editor.
Version v0.66g. This editor is based on code changing, not mouse dragging.
It gives a lot of control to the user, but you will need a bit of a coding
mindset to use this wonderful tool.

N. is a PostScript type 1
font editor with a unique approach. It enables users to edit every element
within a postscript file... the user interface is simple and straight
forward [here follows a description of the editing and manipulation processes
available]... Editing with N. is complicated, but the effort is worthy in two
cases: if you want to be able to edit everything in a PostScript file and, second,
if you really want to learn the PostScript format thoroughly... A font designer
who takes his or her work seriously would have to learn the basic grammar
of the PostScript language, and the amateur font designer would not be at
a loss either.... To sum: N. is not for soft-hearted designers, but the curious
and control-freaks will enjoy it a lot. There is not other font design application
which offers such full control of every aspect of a glyph.

The "Noah Font Editor" was designed
to create and edit Type 1 fonts only. The approach taken by the software
designer is an interesting departure from the conventional Windows user interface.
The underlying Postscript programming code is proudly displayed in two optional
windows. Without any question, it will warm the heart of all hard-nosed software
engineers and Postscript programmers who wants to design or modify fonts.
But, graphic designers generally may not take too kindly to the unconventional,
"in-your-face" engineering approach. Regardless of your background or experience,
using the "Noah Font Editor" will guaranteed to give you a thrill and leave
you with something to talk about. |
